AMOG and our partners are delighted to announce that we have been selected by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to undertake work under their Drag Reducing Architectural Geometries (DRAG) program to develop underwater low drag solutions with testing on flat plates and curved surfaces.

Under DARPA-PA-23-03-04, AMOG’s selected proposal was titled, “Microstructure riblets with novel coatings for drag reduction applications", and will bring together expertise from the University of Melbourne, MicroTau, University of Sydney, University of Alberta, and the Australian Science and Technology Group.

AMOG is ideally and uniquely placed to deliver this work, as experts in the field of practical hydrodynamics, Vortex-Induced-Vibration (#VIV), having developed low drag LGS for other applications (distributed via Matrix Composites and Engineering), and having previously undertaken research in modelling far-field noise transmission.

MicroTau is a manufacturer of a drag-reducing texture inspired by the skin of fast-swimming sharks. MicroTau has existing contracts with the US Airforce.

The University of Melbourne bring world leading high Reynolds number experimental and numerical capabilities.

The University of Sydney and University of Alberta both have novel coating technologies that will be trialled.

DSTG is the Australian Defence Science and Technology Group who’s general remit is to deliver scientific advice and solutions that provide capability enhancement for Defense.

We look forward to delivering a high quality program for DARPA.
